Vienna Austria Day 1 🇦🇹

We went to the Melk Abbey today.  The monestary was built between 1702 and 1736 when Leopold II, Margrave of Austria gave one of his castles to Benedictine monks.  There are several skeletons of saints on display and in the library there are manuscripts dating back to 1089!!!

Then we went to Schönbrunn Palace...ruled by the
Habsburg monarch of Austia, which was Maximillia the 2nd and his wife Maria Theresa.  Marie Antoinette was their daughter  and spent her summers here as a child, as this was JUST their summer home!!!!

Then we road the oldest ferris wheel in the world...

.....and of course in the skyline I saw my company logo Zurich

And then we went to dinner where they play music while you eat and everyone sings along.
They made the German potato salad, exactly how mom's family recipe makes it....and I mean EXACTLY.... except we had the poor man's version which excludes the bacon,  they said only the very wealthy could afford the bacon, and so now they only add bacon for holidays or celebrations.  Instead the poor man's version adds a few bits of red cabbage to give the illusion one is eating the rich version.
They also served up meats...lots and lots of meat.

After dinner Alex ordered his first whiskey called Lagavulin.   It's smelled like a camp fire!
